The weekend began with shopping for food and then spraining my wrist joint at the cashier while loading bottles of wine and soda into the cart. Big ouch. I need to see the doctor =( This is a current worry right now as our wintersport (skiing/snowboarding) holiday seems to be reliant on my wrist getting back in shape.
Anyway, Saturday was spent hiding and firing up a foodstorm in the kitchen (with one hand) for the ‘buffet’ birthday celebration of the Dutchman with the family that night. I never had the luxury of time to take fotos of the food I made but they were all gone at the end of the evening! Whew.
So Sunday was spent more time in the kitchen—cleaning that is, and then going for a stroll in the forest, something that we always love to do on a weekend, and then wrapping the day up with some typical Dutch treats at Dorpstraat, Lage Vuursche in Baarn. It is a little street in the forest with more than enough pancake restaurants this minutae village can handle.
Our walking route for this weekend: Schapendriftwandeling (Schapendrift Trail)

Just like our previous walk, we got lost in the forest but eventually found our way back to the clearing where we parked the car, just by pure chance. It was a nice stroll, albeit some parts of the forest muddy from the defrosting of the snow, we still liked it and would have loved to walk for another half hour, but the sun is setting beyond the horizon which calls for the next item on the agenda…
Pannenkoeken! (Traditional Dutch Pancakes)

Since we have not tried the Pannenkoekenhuis ‘De Vuursche Boer’ yet, we’ve decided to eat here. The interior of the restaurant is very pretty and cozy, and I love their hanging lamp, as well as the nifty candles on the tables. So gezellig. Dutchman had pancakes with ham in it while I settled for chicken soup—I wanted something warm for my tummy, but I did try a little piece of the pancakes and they were yummy.
Pancakes: 5 stars out of 5. Chicken soup: 4 stars out of 5.
