Residential Shophouses

In a previous entry I posted about the retail Peranakan shophouses on Joo Chiat Road which my dad and I visited. It was a very hot summer day in Singapore but we managed to sightsee a lot of shophouses that afternoon. While there I also discovered a street with a row of traditional shophouses, but this time they are residential and were so beautifully renovated and preserved. The rainbow of pastel colours also make them really stand out.

You have to understand that these houses are not cheap. They start at least S$1+ Million (577K in euros or US$592K) and increase depending on the location.

I am sure the government has preservation rules surrounding owning a traditional shophouse.

Owning a car in Singapore is also not cheap due to taxes. In the Netherlands as well the government levies a big tax on new cars depending on weight, size and type of fuel used on top of the VAT.
