I can’t point a finger to this but sipping a glass of sangria with ice cubes in it is much refreshing than sipping a chilled chardonnay in Spain, especially if you are sitting in an outdoor terrace during the hot summer months. I probably drank liters of sangria during the entire summer holiday.
One of my pet peeves as well during summer holidays is not being able to order paella or similar types of dishes. Why do restaurants make the off-putting silly rule of ‘minimum for two persons only’? I am sure there are small paella pans available out there. I love seafood but helaas the Dutchman does not eat anything from the sea nor would he compromise half seafood half meat because part of his aversion to seafood is the smell. These people who are picky with what they eat have very sharp sensory organs.
Anyway, I found this ONLY restaurant along Paseo Maritimo/Playa Bajondillo in Torremolinos offering PAELLA FOR ONE PERSON. Gosh, I was ecstatic!!!
The restuarant is Chiringuito El Velero. I would rate this Paella 4 out of 5 stars and as for the dining experience, 2 maybe even 1.
The waiters in this restaurant (and looks like the owner as well) were grumpy and impatient. We knew the table we want and they tried to shove us into a corner where nobody (obviously) wants to sit. Then they were so eager to give us our bill so new diners can come in even if we are not done with our sangrias. Do not hurry us up! If you want new and repeat customers and customers who will recommend you and talk positively about you, better treat well your current customers first. We did not tip.
