Lunch date at HanCook and the sky toilet encounter

The views up in the N Seoul Tower were amazing so I planned on staying here at the tower longer while savouring the spectacular Seoul skyline and a slow Korean lunch. Lunching at 480 metres above!

There are several restaurants in the tower ranging from casual to formal dining. I picked HanCook Restaurant because it’s Korean. I want Korean food for my lunch.

Because it was the height of lunch time and most of the tables were taken, the waitress told me she has another special place for me. She led me to an exclusive room and opened the door. Voila!

A room all to myself. The perfect lunch date with myself. I cannot wait to tell the Dutchman! (who is at the boring Yongsan electronics market, the worlds biggest electronics market)

I smiled and told the waitress,‘Thank you, this is much better.’

Then off I went to check out the buffet. My order will be delivered later and they informed me that with my order I have access to everything on the buffet.

My first plate, taken from the buffet, and a lovely view. Seaweed, cabbage kimchi, shrimps, spicy squid and sea snails.

My second and third plates. The main plate from the buffet (spicy squid, different types of kimchis, vegetable pancake, glass noodles) and a special order on the side. Plus views again of course.

The special order is a serving of grilled pork belly marinated with red soybean paste. Not my favourite, I barely ate this because of the fat. I did not understand myself why I ordered pork when I do not like pork. The vegetable side dishes were yummy though.

The buffet and the restaurant.

After lunch I checked out the famous ‘sky toilet’ and managed to take some pictures through the help of a Filipina tourist from Manila who thought I was from South America, lol.

She spoke English to me the entire time and after thanking me for taking her pictures, she asked me which country I came from. I said, ‘Philippines’. The woman let out a shriek. As in literally, and she blurted out, ‘Ay ang daya mo talaga! Mukha kang foreigner! Akala ko taga Mexico ka! An daya!’ (translation: You are such a cheat! You look like a foreigner! I thought you are from Mexico!)

In the Philippines, there’s a wave of Mexican telenovelas and if I remember it correctly, the female cast of characters in these telenovelas have big wavy brown hair such as mine. I am of course assuming but I think I am seeing the reference here, haha.

Although I am Asian—Filipino, I often times get mistaken as something else when travelling. Usually as someone from Venezuela and sometimes Colombia and Brazil.
