Galibier Thabor Ski Resort: The Slopes of Valloire (French Alps)

So this post is way long overdue… my excuses.

Our last wintersport holiday was 2 winters ago. We stayed in the charming alpine village of Valloire in the French Alps. I have been meaning to do a review of the Valloire slopes which is part of the Galibier Thabor Ski Resort comprising of Valmeinier and Valloire mountain ski villages. I did manage to review the Valmeinier part but forgot to do Valloire.

Here is my review of Valmeinier – Galibier Thabor Ski Area: Our Review of the Slopes in Valmeinier

Since it’s been 2 winters, my memory of the slopes are unfortunately a bit hazy. I do have pictures of the Valloire slopes but I can’t recall much if they are special or not. Helaas, I don’t have much to say, however, I will still post the pictures.

These were taken on different days in a span of a week on the slopes and nearby the main ski stations of Le Crey du Quart and La Setaz. Both ski stations have gondola lifts to the village centre.

This is by the way the map of the slopes: Galibier Thabor Ski Map

Last year we skipped our annual wintersport holiday as I was just recovering from a bad case of pneumonia. This all happened at the onset of winter during my trip to Japan and the Philippines. It was so bad that I was hospitalised during my vacation. After being discharged, it took me 5 weeks to recover. Glad that I was able to arrange working part-time (50%) and from home during the slow recovery process.

Nevertheless, this winter we are going to the Alps! And I will for sure make a review of the ski resort and the slopes on time so I will not forget the important facts and details.

PICTURES DURING A GOOD WEATHER DAY:

This one is an easy green slope. I do not like green slopes much because they tend to be flat. You can get stuck on them and it can be tiring to drag the skis instead of just gliding down.

We had a few days where the weather was lovely. You can surely get a tan on top of the Alps when the skies are blue and the sun is shining.

This is one of the restaurants  in the mountains, Le Chalet de la Brive. Dutchman and I had a candlelit dinner here one evening where I almost burned my hair. Scary!

It is lovely being on top of the mountains and seeing the rugged snowy peaks. This is at Crey du Quart ski station area.

PICTURES DURING CLOUDY AND GREY WEATHER DAYS

I remember having erratic weather days during the wintersport holiday. Clouds were quick to move from one mountain to another and the weather literally changed in just a matter of minutes. The mountains can be harsh when the weather is against you.

I am not the best skier but I can survive going down the mountain slope alone.

When the weather changes, it is sometimes difficult to see the slopes as everything is all white!

This is a red slope in Valloire near Setaz I believe. I remember skiing on this one and experiencing lots of bumps. It wasn’t really a nice slope run.

My nightmare on the slopes is when the snow becomes hard and icy, and when slopes become like this, with soil peeking out.

This is at 2,256 metres above sea level.
