Montenegro was one of the countries I have covered in the Balkan road trip last year. Goodness, the trip felt like ages ago already! Time fly so fast these days.
So just a quick recap of the road trip. Bubbles and I started in Tuzla (Bosnia & Hercegovina), driving to Sarajevo, the capital of the country, after which we moved on south to Mostar and even managed to do a quick visit to Medjugorje. Then we crossed borders to Croatia in the Adriatic Coast and stayed in Dubrovnik where we hopped on a boat to the small island called Lokrum. Then it was time to cross borders again, and here we are in Perast, Montenegro.
After busy Dubrovnik in Croatia, Perast was a breath of fresh air.
Perast is a UNESCO world heritage town and we were very glad to have stayed in this very laid-back and serene sanctuary, which actually has a more village-like feel really. We love it.
In Montenegro, we actually stopped in 2 places, in seaside Perast and the Durmitor in the mountains. We stayed 3 days in the coastal part of the country and we chose Perast as our base camp as it is a very panoramic, quaint and historical town. The rest of the places we wanted to visit were not very far away as well.
In Perast we stayed at the Conte Hotel & Restaurant. The location of the hotel is superb. Right on the beautiful Bay of Kotor.
The hotel is made up of a couple of 18th-century stone buildings located on the waterfront promenade of Perast and just beside the main square of the town. The buildings were the former House of Culture and they are preserved and protected historical buildings.
We were given the suite with the view to the Bay of Kotor. I love watching the lush fjords. In the mornings I see the massive cruise ships passing. It’s a bit surreal to see a huge piece of boat wading through the serene bay and green vegetation mountain backdrop.
The bedroom is a bit spacious and cosy and I like the wooden beam ceiling. I slept really nicely here.
Below at the restaurant, we were given welcome drinks. The stone-walled dining room is an eye-catcher. There are several dining area options in the hotel. You’ve got the open-air waterside terrace, which in my opinion, is the best place in the hotel to dine in. The view is magnificent! There is also a lively open-air terrace adjacent to the hotel on the town’s main square. But if the weather is not cooperative enough, the cosy stone-walled dining room inside is also charming.
On our first morning, we had our first breakfast inside the restaurant. The weather promised a much better day the next day so we had breakfast on the waterfront terrace. Oh, what can I say? It was bliss and just was lovely. The relaxing atmosphere, the view of Kotor Bay and the two islets, the Lady of the Rocks and St. George were nothing short than amazing. It was definitely one of those stunning breakfast location experiences!
Staff was wonderful and very much able, always willing to help. Nikola, the hotel receptionist was an angel, very accommodating but professional. She was always there for a nice friendly chat and to give us good tips.
