I adore BeaverTails! They are typically Canadian pastries.
I wish I ate another one of this before I left Ottawa. My niece AnK who is studying for a semester at the Ottawa University treated me to a BeaverTail pastry in the Byward Market. My expectations were low as I heard that it is similar to a fried doughnut, albeit flat and thin. AnK said it reminded her of oliebol, which is a deep-fried pastry we eat here in the Netherlands during winter season.
The BeaverTail pastry comes in different choices of confection toppings. Nutella, chocolate m&m’s, banana, whipped cream, crumbled oreos, cheese, vanilla icing, apples and more.
Because AnK is treating, she ordered for both of us. She went for the regular BeaverTail Classique (the original flavour) sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon powder whilst I ordered the same but with a slice of lemon, the Killaloe Sunrise. It was the right choice for me as the lemon gave that extra oomph.
I highly suggest the Killaloe Sunrise BevearTail (sugar, cinnamon and lemon). Really yummy!
In Ottawa you can find the BeaverTail shop in Byward Market.
