A Greasy Hooters Dinner in Clarke Quay, Singapore

I was just thinking about this now and technically I went or entered Singapore three times last year. The little country became my VIA ROUTE going to the Philippines, to Malaysia and back to Europe. I wish I could spend more time in Singapore but I am not a travelling nomad, I have responsibilities back home.

For the next set of Singapore entries I will be posting, these are the last leg of my Singapore visit, aka the third entry to this country. I was able to spend more time with my parents, SisterJ and Myrrh.

This was the evening when we came back from Malaysia and I was exhausted from the long distance bus drive which I will write about on a separate post. It was a nightmare for me, it was supposed to be a nice and comfortable tourist bus, but it was not! It takes a lot to get me (the high energy level woman) exhausted.

Anyway, the family decided to go to Clarke Quay and hit the first restaurant we will see that has a nice view over the waters. I actually forgot the name of the restaurant we ate at but after a little bit of searching on the net I found it. I realised its a popular American chain of restaurants. Let’s just say this is one of those GREASY need-to-get-it-done-with dinners. Filipinos like them no other way anyway.

It is a fact that Americans and Filipinos share the same tastebuds: Sweet, Greasy and Meaty.

Deep fried Jalapenos. Too oily but tastes good!

Twister fries.

Fried chicken, one serving natural style cooked.

Another fried chicken serving of spicy ones. See the little red flag stick.

Cesar salad, because I insisted we need to have some form of vegetables on the table. Go easy on the sauce and cheese though, and I hate those croutons.

My sister suggested pasta with shrimps.

Someone else also suggested quesadillas.

My Issue with Grease (and sweets)

I eat rather healthy in the Netherlands, not because I want to eat healthy per se. It’s just that my taste buds and my stomach prefer lots of greens and vegetables. I do not own a deep fryer. I also do not bake, although I want to, its just that I am not into the patisserie stuff. Two weeks  ago I bought a bag of Swedish lemon cupcakes, and since, I only ate one. I cannot push myself to eat another cupcake without my tongue turning sour. Maybe I am just lucky that I do not like most unhealthy or loaded with fats and carbs food? Although I also have my fair share of unhealthy dishes and snacks that I like from time to time. I guess the secret here is eating in moderation. For example, I adore fried chicken wings to bits, but I eat them perhaps 3-4 times a year and order every time a small portion. I also crave for rice, so I buy brown rice instead and TRY not to eat a lot. Some days I give in though.

Having said all that, my stomach does not go well with a dinner like this. Moreover, except for my father, my family does not really understand my love for vegetables. Most Filipinos don’t anyway. I cannot help it but I just eat a balanced and healthy diet without ever trying?

It’s actually sad that most Filipinos DO NOT (and I repeat, DO NOT) understand the concept of healthy eating. It is time for a food revolution in the country!

The senior citizens, Mom and Dad.

SisterJ, Myrrh and moi. I was exhausted here, I even dozed off in my chair after the dinner.

The boat rides in Clarke Quay. Dutchman and I tried this many years ago.

For dessert, we bought ice cream from this stand. It’s Turkish ice cream to be precise and the man likes to play around with his customers. I told my sister she better get the ice cream herself for us because I have no patience to bear with this man’s games and antics. He might just encounter his first ever infuriated customer, lol.

You know when you are exhausted, you become disillusioned and ill-tempered, plus all the grease in my stomach after the Hooter’s dinner, my mood just turned really sour. I wanted out of Clarke Quay but because its a hot night we first needed our ice cream shot. Bless my sister, she is as ever patient.

Fort Canning Park is across Clark Quay.
