Shopping in Madrid and Lunch: Boquerones and Patatas Bravas

Blondine and I did a second round of the Madrid skyline tour, after which we hit the streets for shopping. You know a whole afternoon of shopping for women is not enough but we managed to find a few cool stuff.

We discovered this local chic brand called Uterque. They are not really cheap but they aren’t too expensive as well. I bought a pair of elegant brown-black snakeskin pumps and a leather tangerine coloured belt. Quite happy with this purchase. Blondine bought shoes as well.

We also managed to sit down on a cafe terrace on Gran Via, just to relax a bit and talk about the shopping we did. We are, girls, after all, he =)

Not far too long from our shopping jaunt, we were craving for lunch. Actually, it was a very late lunch craving. We were almost famished!

We found a nice corner cafe restaurant nearby with an outdoor terrace near the shopping alleys and ordered our favourite Spanish food, ‘Boquerones’ (anchovies) marinated in vinegar and olive oil. We paired this with the filling Patatas Bravas in chilli sauce. Finished them all off with a glass of chilled Chardonnay. Heaven on earth. Our happiness can be very shallow, but yeah, we are quite happy with that!

Then one of the older English guys, also a tourist himself, seated at the next table, struck up a conversation with me. Of all subjects, about shopping. Haha. Obviously he, well they, saw our bulky shopping bags. He asked me how the shopping experience was in the city. I told him of course that Madrid is definitely much cheaper than Amsterdam. Plus, good quality local brands were always a delight to discover.

Well, I found it a bit odd, talking about shopping with a man? Maybe he was just really amused to see us women with our shopping bags, haha.

Anyway, the shopping bags will be deposited at the hotel later, and perhaps, we’ll take a nap as well, before watching a local show.

Here is an interesting building in the shopping area, just near the corner of Puerta del Sol and Gran Via. The windows have a play of multimedia and psychedelic colours. Really nice and catchy!
