Last weekend was a long weekend (Saturday to Monday) in the Netherlands and for many countries in Europe because of the Christian celebration called Pentecost. Many people do not actually observe Pentecost anymore but it is a holiday that everyone wants to keep just so we have an extra free day. I am all for it =)
Since Dutchman and I have been travelling in the last week, he to South Asia and moi to East Europe, we decided to just spend the long weekend chilling out at home together. We basically did nothing for three days except this stroll last Saturday in Transwijk and Dichterswijk. Both neighbourhoods are located in Utrecht Zuidwest.
Join us in our Saturday afternoon stroll =)
Boat houses along the Leidse Rijn on Kanaalweg.
Fountain on Transwijk Noord at the back of Jaarbeurs.
Dichterswijk just beside the Jaarbeurs. The shiny building is the Rabobank Headquarters.
It was very warm and humid last weekend and the outdoors terraces were quite full. I heard the coast and the beaches were insanely crowded.
Need some drink after that little walk. The Harbour Restaurant Cafe’s specialty is fish.
We ordered a light snack to share, a mozarella salad and some fries. I will come back here and try their seafood dishes.
We will try this Veiling Restaurant another time. We actually had a formal dinner here many years ago when it was owned by a different restaurant, then Divinatio.
I believe these are containers to hold cement, sand or gravel for construction. Nowadays they are used as office spaces and rentals for meetings even. Unique huh? Great to combine with some water activity (canoeing/boating) + dinner at the Veiling Restaurant + business meeting here =)
This is a sports and gym building in Transwijk. Cool huh. There is a football field across this building.
Now you have seen a little bit more of Utrecht!
