Would you believe that this dinner is under 10 Euros? 9 Euros to be exact =)
I was not in the mood to eat something heavy. I also did not fancy eating any German-style meat dish. I want to eat something light. Additionally, I didn’t want to eat in a busy or noisy place. I just want to eat a simple, light and quick dinner and be back at the hotel as I need to work on some stuff before going to bed.
So I passed by this bar-bistro restaurant called HOF 18 Bar-Bistro located beside the famous Brauhaus Früh and the Heinzelmännchenbrunnen (Little house gnome statues). I was quite tempted to go in the brewery and dine there, but got turned off at the noise. I quickly read through the menu placed outside the door of HOF 18 Bar-Bistro and the flammkuchen caught my eye. That sure is something light I thought.
This version of flammkuchen (the classic) is really good. Thin crust, crunchy and the spread of the cheese, bacon and onions were just even to the taste. Fresh actually. Light.
I wasn’t able to finish the whole thing but this is definitely one of the value for money dinners I have ever had in a long time.
The flammkuchen is a popular dish in Germany and many say its origins can be traced to the Elsass (present day Alsace, France) which used to be part of Germany before. Although I have read as well that other parts in the south of Germany such as the Baden and Palatinate areas have been baking these for centuries already.
