Portugal: Algarve Mountain Village Monchique

Monschique is a beautiful and colourful town nestled on top of the mountains of Algarve. It is about 80-90 kilometres from Albufeira.

The untouched from modernisation city lies between the hills of Foia and Picota. A surprising treat for us! The town is very colorful and its beauty served as a splendid alternative to the typical whitewashed Portuguese houses with red tiled roofs.

Dutchman and I were practically lost in the snaking cobbled streets that can only fit 1 car at a time. But it’s not only that, the roads were like a roller coaster ride, up and down, here we go, and up and down… I didn’t mind getting lost, after all I was not the one driving and well losing your direction in a town like this is just plain marvelous. I just ogle at the colorful architecture around me, leaving Dutchman the difficult task ahead.

Me in the heart of Monchique, a charismatic town on top of the mountains of Algarve, the highest point of Portugal.

One of the old rustic buildings. I wonder if someone is still living inside? Hmm…

A colorful set! They look more like playhouses to me.

Translation: The street of Saint Anthony. Incidentally Calcada is also the same word for street in Cebuano (my native Filipino dialect), I think it is either spelled Calzada (using the Spanish influence) or Kalsada (very local Cebuano way of spelling it).

The plight of going down… careful please with the heels! And the view going down. Interesting colors…
