Gambas al Ajillo and Crema Catalana on Playa del Bajondillo, Malaga

Our dinner in this Italian-Spanish restaurant on Playa del Bajondillo is probably one of the nice dinners we’ve had in this summer holiday.

Gambas al Ajillo, smells good and still piping hot.

Since we are eating out every night for 3 weeks, I worried a bit on expanding sideways. SELF CONTROL is a hard thing to do when you love food, so my tactic was to eat only seafood starters together with the obligatory bread. If we order a plate of salad, Dutchman and I share, and this applies to dessert as well. Luckily, I am not the sweet tooth type. I just taste the dessert out of curiosity, then pass it on to Dutchman who licks everything clean.

The restaurant is called Restaurante Pizza-Mare and it’s located on Paseo Maritimo, Playa del Bajondillo, Torremolinos. We didn’t order their specialty though. Dutchman had oven baked penne with meat, tomato sauce and cheese and I had a typical Spanish dish, ‘Gambas al Ajillo’ (garlic prawns). Then we tried their dessert called ‘Crema Catalana’ or Crema de Sant Josep, a cold custard cream that tasted like ice cream to me and layered on top with caramel sweet. They say this is the Spanish version of crème brûlée. We then wrapped up the dinner with the usual coffee. Coffee in Spain is always a wonderful experience. I always take mine double espresso.

This is definitely 4.5 stars dinner out of 5!

The Gambas al Ajillo is not a starter for me but my main course.
Dutchman had this oven baked penne that looked like it was grilled.

Crema Catalana or Crema de Sant Josep, Spain’s answer to Crème Brûlée.
