Dublin: Grafton Street and William Street South

If Amsterdam has Kalverstraat and London has Oxford Street minus the traffic, then Dublin has Grafton Street.

Grafton Street Shopping Street

The street begins with the statue of Molly Malone near Trinity College Dublin and ends with the south arched gate of St. Stephen’s Park.

Grafton Street is the main shopping alley of the city where the rubbish meets the chic are sold. This pedestrianized lane actually reminds me of a main artery that channels and feeds its existence from sub-arteries flowing from it, which means, check out the side streets! There is a rife of treasure trove shops here that will keep you busy. And even when there’s no shopping involved, it’s a nice area to walk through, with the park in mind at the end of the street as a final destination.

William Street South (the party street)

William Street South on the other hand and it’s surroundings is another favourite hang out place at night.

Unlike rowdy and overly exposed Temple Bar, William Street South is hip, preppy and cool, and a favourite hangout of Dublin’s young professionals. I quite like the local vibes humming on here, perhaps something to do with the lack of the usual tourist mobs that regularly invades Dublin’s thoroughfares (they are probably stuck in the many bars in Temple Bar!).

So, what do you think of William Street South and it’s environs? A cool place to be? Well, I’ll let you decide. See some of the fotos below:
