Strawberry farms are all over the map in the Cameron Highlands. I was actually expecting to see some strawberry fields, a nostalgia of a visit that I did with friends in Baguio, Philippines two decades ago. I have been to Baguio several times before but for this particular visit we went hand picking strawberries on the fields. I really had fun plucking them one by one and putting them all into the little pail I was given which was later weighed upon check out. Unfortunately we did not see any strawberry fields in Cameron.
My parents though, especially my mom, is not very fond of strawberries. She is as tropical as can be preferring bananas and guavas as fruits. I do like strawberries but I am not a big fan either although I think the juicy crop look so pretty. But we still decided to take a look.
In Malaysia (as well as in the rest of tropical Asia), winter fruits are a scarcity so they tend to be very popular with the local population. Thus these strawberry farms offering hand picking of ripe strawberries are good business in the Cameron Highlands. There is big demand!
We went to two strawberry plantations and it is very interesting to see the way they design the layout of their farms.
Kasimanis Strawberry Farm

This farm is located before Brinchang proper if coming from Tanah Rata just beside the Cameron Highlands Resort on an uphill little road. They farm the strawberries on pots placed on suspended parallel planter boxes.
They also sold different varieties of cactuses and flowers here.
EQ Strawberry Farm

EQ is the second strawberry farm we visited. It is located beside the Equatorial Hotel in Brinchang which is hard to miss as it is on the main road.
Here they plant the strawberries in pots too and line them up on suspended planter boxes as well, but they also hang the strawberry pots vertically which is a creative way of maximising space.
The farms also sell ready-to-eat strawberries dipped in chocolate, strawberry ice cream and yoghurt, strawberry filled pastries, strawberry jams, strawberry slushies and milkshakes, strawberry candies, strawberry flavoured tea drinks and tea bags, strawberry cakes and many more strawberry themed foods. This is strawberry land =)
