The cityscape of Istanbul is decorated with landmarks of domes and minarets inherited from the heroic Ottoman Period. There are big domes and small ones and many mosques adopt multi-dome designs which makes architecture in the city very fascinating.
Perhaps the most visible of all mosques in Istanbul is the Yeni Cami or the New Mosque located in the Eminonu quarter (Fatih), just off Galata Bridge. It’s location is so central that it is almost impossible to miss this mosque. I didn’t get to visit inside though. I just lingered in the courtyard and watched the local men clean themselves from the fountain before prayers and observed the women going in and out of the holy place.
From this mosque one can have stunning views of Beyoglu with the Galata Tower sticking out of the hilly district’s panorama.
If you want to visit a mosque, this and the Blue Mosque are your best bets.
