Everytime I am in France I always visit their supermarches and I cannot stop taking pictures. Sometimes I feel silly but I cannot help it. And Dutchman always reminds me: Do not buy a lot!
These were taken in a supermarket somewhere in the valley near Valloire in the Savoy arrondissement in the Rhone-Alpes Region. We were on our way back to the Netherlands and decided to do a pit stop at the gas station and at this supermarket.
Rissoles from the Savoie Region, which is a local specialty actually. They are croquette pastries filled with minced meat, and they are baked, not fried.
A typical French supermarket usually have these on offer. In the Netherlands we need to go to a specialty butcher shop for this. The average Dutch does not have a huge palate and anything outside his or her palate’s comfort zone, such as these salamis, are already called ‘luxe’.
These are very, very tasty sausages. I bought a few packs because Dutchman needs his meat. Highly recommended! When in the Savoy Region in France, check out these Pormoniers Sausages.
LaBeyrie foie gras. I love foie gras but I prefer to eat them when I am dining out, and not at home.
Bugnes or Merveilles (French Fritters of Beignets), usually sold before Lent and a specialty from Lyon which is in the same region.
The picture of the valley below. Somewhere down there is the supermarket =)
