In San Francisco, USA: Best cheap place to have coffee in Union Square + some shopping

Shopping for me while traveling is an accidental activity, unless of course if the theme goes local and cultural, for example, checking out a farmers market or visiting the town’s exotic souk.

We happen to check out Union Square one afternoon and from the square we saw this cool see-through café in the upper floors of Macy’s building, and I thought—aha, that is a perfect place to hangout! It was as well time for our afternoon coffee so I motioned Dutchman to follow me. I can’t really remember which floor the café was located but I do remember its name: Starbucks Coffee

Must I say that this is the best Starbucks with a view in the whole wide world?

By pure chance, because it is always busy in this Starbucks branch, we were able to get the best seats in the house. The 2 big very comfortable leather chairs with little pillows facing the floor to ceiling glass window walls looking down to Union Square. I think Dutchman and I sat here for more than an hour staring at the view and watching people. Above fotos are the evidence of this very relaxing cheap activity. Not bad I reckon.

And since I was already inside Macy’s, I did a little bit of shopping as well. We later left the building with 5 items in the bag. All mine =)

There is Cheesecake Factory as well on top of Macys. It has its own sky terrace patio that boasts great views down to Union Square and the San Francisco skyline. However, after seeing the long queue at the lifts, we decided not to push forward with the visit to the Cheesecake Factory. The Starbucks Coffee with the Union Square view was good enough, but for those who want more, I would suggest to go otherwise.

The Union Square area is by the way ringed with high-end signature shops and upmarket department stores. This is a shopping heaven for women with moolah to spend or for women who have men with moolah who will spend for them =)

Driving on Powell Street or Stockton Street (whichever, cannot remember) towards Union Square.

Passing by Union Square in the Theater District. This foto was taken on our first day in San Francisco.

All rental cars in the USA are automatic. We just passed by Union Square here. This part of San Francisco (Theater District) reminds me a bit of Manhattan.
