Although I have seen hundreds, maybe thousands of religious worship places in my travels and since childhood days (usually Catholic Churches), I always check the interior of most of the churches that I come across with. Many Catholic Churches you know are guilty of being spendthrift and lavish.
During the Middle Ages up until the late 18th century, religion was a very important corridor of expressing, developing, cultivating and showcasing art. It was a platform back then were people were enlightened, encouraged and strengthened through religious art forms. Although many countries and parts of our society are still are today…
Church of Notre Dame de l’Assomption
One of my beautiful finds in this skiing trip in Valloire is its church, which is the pride of the town, a historical monument going back to the 17th century: ‘The Church of Notre Dame de l’Assomption’
The church is designed in baroque style and the exterior may not give you the slighest idea of the treasures she has inside, do not ever discount it. What do they say about not judging the book by its cover?
The interior of Notre Dame de l’Assomption Church is amazing. Simply stunning! I can understand why it is the most prized possession of the town, aside from, of course its snow-capped mountains. The details of the ceilings are just so gorgeous. Frescoes of little cherubs adorn the cupola of the altar area giving parishioners and visitors a celestial experience.
A miracle also just happened when I was here.
The Dutchman went inside the church with me and even sat down to reflect for a bit. This is a milestone considering he has severe allergies from anything pertaining to culture, old structures, ruins, castles, church buildings and more. He has seen it—everything he claims. Since his childhood days, he has been dragged to many corners of Europe by his art loving parents.
He is a Catholic himself as well, and although I haven’t heard him denounce his religion just yet, it has to be moi, the atheist, the one to drag him to his church???
Ah, the possibilities of life indeed are endless…. make no mistake.
