Utrecht: ‘We Will Rock You’ Musical and Herman Brood Art

So we watched ‘We Will Rock You’, a QUEEN musical in Beatrix Theater in Utrecht! Dutchman and I are QUEEN fans, especially the Dutchman when he was younger. Bohemian Rhapsody will always be a favourite of mine and Freddie Mercury will always be the best stage performer, of all times.

We sat in front, on the lower ground of the theater, not too far from the stage which was nice as we could see the faces and expressions of the artists. The show was lovely and the cast have totally amazing voices. Aw, just simply—WOW.

Helaas, it is not allowed to take fotos or videos during the show but I sneaked this one just before it started.

And of course because this is the Netherlands, there is always ‘pauze’ (intermission).

The storyline was nothing new though, and in my humble opinion, could be improved. It’s the usual subplot of a lunatic villain GAGAgone wild (think along the lines of Dr. EVIL who wants it all in Gaga outfit). World domination that is in the music world, but wait—suddenly, out of nowhere comes this chosen one who will stop the whole mind control slash domination shebang, then throw in our hero falling in love… yeah, you got a plot. The usual stuff right?

Personally I think the narrative is cheesy but the act and the singing were marvellous. Grade A!

Go see if you have not yet seen the musical. Go here for the official UK site: We Will Rock You
and for the Dutch musical site: We Will Rock You (Dutch)

In Beatrix Theater they have Herman Brood’s paintings as well. I am liking them.

If you do not know who Herman Brood is (there is google of course), he is a famous and eccentric Dutch rock-hedonistic style singer who ended his life by jumping off a building in Amsterdam. He is known for his ‘Saturday Night’ and ‘Wild Romance’ songs. He was a painter as well.

The title of the painting is ‘Le Copa Las Vega’.

This is ‘Marilyn Monroe’ according to Herman Brood.

I didn’t get the title of these 2 paintings.

And lasty, this is ‘Cocktails’.

I am also looking at doing a massive (wall size) painting for the house but I keep postponing this project. {sigh} I am lazy.
