If you are into panoramic city skylines then this place in Montreal should not be missed.
I first came here at the Kondiaronk’s viewing platform of the Chalet du Mont-Royal on top of Parc du Mont-Royal on a weekend to view the lunar eclipse together with my niece, AnK. You can read here my entry and see pictures of this special evening: Supermoon Lunar Eclipse from Mount Royal Park in Montreal, Canada.
The moment I stood there with the spectacular evening lights view of Montreal before me, I just knew that I have to go back to see the city during the day. When I left Ottawa to continue my road trip, I passed by Montreal again. The perfect chance to revisit the lookout.
TRIVIA: Did you know that squirrels in Canada abound? You can find them all over the place and the Mount Royal Park in Montreal is one of their homes. I spotted a number of them during my walk to the chalet’s lookout. They are just so cute. They are not intimidated by people but if you get close to them, they amble away.
To get here by car just follow the signs to Mount Royal Park or to Chalet du Mont-Royal on 1196 Camillien-Houde Road. There is a big paid parking area and you will have to walk a little bit to get to the chalet and the lookout. By public transportation, take the metro and get out at Mont-Royal stop, then take Bus 11 to go up the park. You can also walk up from the entrance of Avenue de Pins. Check out the map below.
In the chalet you will find murals illustrating Canada’s history. There is also a little souvenir shop and café where you can buy drinks and snacks.
