Views from (and climbing) the Round Tower and a glimpse to the Trinitatis Church in Copenhagen

This is one of the popular attractions in Copenhagen Indre By. ‘Indre By’ is the core old centre of Copenhagen City. The tower is the oldest functioning observatory (with a little planetarium) in Europe (circa 1642) and it is annexed to the Trinitatis Church.

Although the lines can get so long at the cashier, I still would highly recommend this place to visit because it has beautiful panoramic views on top of Copenhagen old centre.

The Round Tower measures 40 metres in length but nothing to worry as it’s a fairly easy walk to the top. The climb is not really hefty at all because you walk on a wide spiral ramp that gradually goes up to the observatory and the planetarium. The King of Denmark who commissioned this work wishes to be driven on a horse carriage to the top, thus the spiral ramp design.

I won’t bore you with history statements about the Round Tower and the Church, but if you want to know more, you may go here for information: Copenhagen Round Tower and the Trinitatis Church

Apart from the observatory and planetarium, you can find on top of the tower a café and an art gallery showcasing special exhibitions. Denmark is a design and art city so for people who are into this, there are a lot of art eye candy for you in store.

The café on top though was not that impressive. It would have been nicer if there were wide open windows opening up to spectacular views of the city’s rooftops, but for this you will have to go all the way up to the observatory deck.

The pictures of course!

As you can see, it is a fairly easy climb.

Little boy playing hide and seek with his parents. I told him I won’t tell where he is =)

The Trinitatis Church annexed to the Round Tower. From the spiral ramp you can have a view to the church.

The art gallery and exhibition on top of the tower. This is where the cafe is also located.

And here are the views from the Round Tower observatory deck:

This is the highest place in the core centre of Copenhagen for nice panoramic views. There is another one though, but its in another part of the city, and will blog about it as well, but later.
