Afternoon Tea & Cake at the Dom Cafe of Utrecht Dom Church

I have just recently discovered the Dom Cafe of Utrecht Dom Church. I knew there was a café inside the Utrecht Dom Church but I never visited it. I thought the café was just an ordinary one but when I visited last year, just out of curiosity really, I was in for a surprise.

Isn’t the cafe stunning?

The Dom Café has a lovely view of the inner courtyard garden! I love its magnificent floor to ceiling wide glass panels. This is what gives the café the x factor, it is what makes it inviting and pleasing to the eye, its glass windows, and the view of course.

I ordered a cup of tea when I saw their offer: A pot of tea + Domkoek (Dom cookie cake). Not a bad idea.

The woman behind the counter in the cafe said that the church (well their bakery) has been making this medieval cake with a stamped design of knight on a horse for a long time already.

You can see the sweet sticky filling and the raisins inside.

The Dom cake though is very sweet. Too sweet for my taste buds. It has some fruity almond filling in it with raisins. Just too sweet for words for me, so I just ate the sides of the cake and left the filling on the plate.

Below are a few pictures of the inner garden courtyard of the Utrecht Dom Church, and these are the church’s opening times:

May to September –  10:00 to 17:00 hours
October to April – 11:00 to 16:00 hours
Saturday (whole year) until –  15:30 hours
Sunday (whole year) – 14:00 to 16:00 hours

The garden courtyard is open daily.

When in Utrecht do visit this little garden and cafe.

Visit Period: October 2013
Destination: Utrecht Centrum (Utrecht), The Netherlands
