Are you curious how people lived in this small island country of Singapore?
I was just reading some sites online that says more than 80% of the locals in Singapore live in public government-funded housing located in community housing estates which are called HDB (Housing & Development Board). These HDB housing estates have access to a supermarket, clinic, school, recreation facilities and market & food centre. Now public housing in this small country means buildings. Thus more than 80% live in HDB buildings which you will see all over the country. Many well to-do families live in HBD as well as they come in different sizes and classes.
The rest of the locals live in private housing such as apartments, condominiums, town houses and stand-alone houses (which are so darn expensive).
These pictures are in a private housing neighbourhood in the eastern part of Singapore in Telok Kurau, Bedok where SisterJ and Myrhh live. The neighbourhood is a nice combination of private houses, apartments and condominiums. They have previously lived in a HDB flat as well.
I managed to take pictures of the neighbourhood one afternoon enroute to the bus stop. We mostly took the cab during our stay in Singapore (cheap from a Euro point of view) but for shorter trips, such as going to the nearby market & food center which is just 2 bus stops away, the bus is naturally the best option.
So this is how the rest of the less than 20% in Singapore live.
