Dinner at Casa Pascual I in La Carihuela | Malaga, Spain Holiday

We found this cute restaurant amidst the busy shopping streets and maze of outdoor restaurants with terraces in La Carihuela, a little fishing village in the times of yore that is now a main sun-beach holidaymakers’ spot in Torremolinos.

Casa Pascual I
was one of the Spanish restaurants in this Andalucian summer holiday that we really enjoyed our dinner. They gave us a card for a free bottle of wine if we come back. Hmm, maybe we will before the end of this holiday.

This dinner is 5 stars out of 5.

The problem here in Costa del Sol and in Spain in general when dining out is that many servers do not speak English and because of this non-Spanish speaker diners usually encounter communication problems, i.e. the other night we had the wrong drink size and the wrong meal. What can I say? My Spanish vocabulary is limited and I can only get away with a few very basic phrases. For survival.

This is a very odd problem because Spain’s beach coast is a popular European destination, moreover, it is a national tourist attraction. These bars and restaurants should start hiring people or teaching their staff to speak at least Basic English before Greece and Turkey takes over.

With all the cluster of (picture menu) restaurants in La Carihuela, this has got to be one of the jewels. They not only serve the usual seafood fare but they also specialize in meat. They have hams (hanging from the bar) from Extramadura region.

Here is a close up of the lovely Extramadura jamons. The sangria especiale jug and 1 liter of sangria is enough for 2.

Magro con tomato, the free tapas served with the bread made of square-cut pork (oops pig!) is so far the best starter we ever had. Dutchman ordered Chicken Curry.

I had Mejillones en salsa (mussels in tomato-paprika sauce) and with it were bits and pieces of shrimps, clams and fish as well. This is one lovely dish, yummy to the shells.
