Temple Bar in Dublin, where the party is

Is the place everyone flock to and rave about. It offers a sublime union of pure Irish culture and entertainment, a perfect slice of Dublin that is and all for the right reasons—what Ireland has managed to export successfully across the globe including Guinness, behold, the IRISH BARS! Yup, Temple Bar is not just a bar but a street in Dublin full of bars.

Irish Bars

Irish Bars are highly characterized by their conspicuous classically designed façade with symmetrical columns—the ‘Doric Order’ to be specific but sometimes they variate to Corinthian and Ionic, very typical of Georgian architectural style and heavily influenced by Palladianism. When it comes to design, I go for minimalism and symmetry as well.

If there is one thing that is constant about the Temple Bar area it is the tourists and the locals frequenting the area. Day and night the place is bursting with people, especially at night when the irresistible pint beckons sweetly, hehe. Temple Bar is undoubtedly the nightlife capital of Dublin and a must visit for every first timer in the city.

As for its name, no one can really trace its roots but the noble Temple family of Sir William Temple, chancellor of the Trinity College Dublin and parliament member, used to live in the area. The history of the place is actually quite interesting which involves the almost demolition of the whole block into a bus terminal that lead to protests and eventually the government mediating and securing funding to revive the area into becoming Dublin’s cultural quarter, which I must say has been successful so far. Well done!

The Irish are also a gregarious lot and walking around Temple Bar while taking fotos will definitely catch the local people’s attention who are more than willing to take your camera and shoot a foto of you with your desired Irish Bar backdrop. I surrendered my camera to one persistent friendly pudgy man with rosy cheeks (must be the pint!) and he took a foto of me with the prettiest bar on the street—The Oliver St. John Gogarty Bar.

Many of the bars here, as well as shops are painted in graffiti style with bright colours.
