A day in York: Cliffords Tower

Now back to York. I did a quick visit to York last May arriving in Leeds, taking the bus, train and then cab to York. Spent the evening eating salt & vinegar crisps and beef jerky that I picked up at WHSmith. They are my usual UK staple every time I land in this country, just had to have this. I am autistic sometimes, lol. Then I did a quick stroll in the area of my hotel, internetted in the lobby while enjoying a glass of red wine and then retired early to bed.

The next day, after my hearty English breakfast at my Hospital Hotel, I was ready for a long beautiful day in York. This is not my first time in York, however, the last time I was here was a long time ago. I did not have much recollection of the place except briefly remembering the York Minster and the ruin walls.

The first item in the agenda: The 13th century Cliffords Tower

Clifford’s Tower is the keep of York’s Castle. During the Crusader Period, Cliffords Tower marked the bloodiest tragedy in the history of the persecuted Jews in England. I will spare you with all the history talk, you can find it for yourself here—Cliffords Tower.

There is an entrance fee to get into the tower, and the man behind the counter was quite friendly and talkative asking everyone that came in where they are from. He must love his job.

The tower is located across the York Castle Museum so if you fancy visiting museums, this would be good to combine.
