All the pies, pudding, cakes, tarts and every little sweet pastry did not tempt me, afterall I do not have a sweet tooth. I do however have a salty and sour tooth.
So what did I buy? Well, my usual favourite English staple food—Crisps. It was nice that they have a gourmet option on sale. I actually bought 3 cans of the Convivial Yorkshire Crips (sour cream, dill & mustard flavor) and they were so absolutelicious good! Wishing I bought more.
I also came upon a Hog Roast stall which is a York specialty.
From the website of York Council:
“Farmers, growers or producers from within a 40 mile radius of York city centre sell their produce, direct to the public. Advantages include cutting out the “middle man”, reducing the distance that the produce has to travel to reach the consumer and giving customers the opportunity to deal direct with the producer.
All goods that are sold on York farmers’ markets have either been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stallholder.
York is proud to hold certification status – adhering to strict criteria issued by the National Association of Farmers Markets. You can find out more about farmers’ markets on the National Association of Farmers’ Markets website.â€
