When I was in York, UK last May, I encountered a succulent local specialty—the ‘Hog Roast’. They pretty much reminded me of ‘lechon’ (pig roasted on a spit) in the Philippines which is a local specialty where I come from as well, in Cebu. The York version however, the pig is bigger, head cut off and skin crunchier looking. They scrub salt on the skin to make the crackling effect.
In York’s Farmer’s Market in Parliament Street in the city centre I came across a hog roast stall, one of the popular stalls in the market I reckon. The Farmer’s Market is held every last Friday of the month and I promise to post a separate entry about this very soon. I just love markets!
This is no secret that I am not into pork or meat for that matter but I can’t deny that this roasted piece of meat is mouth-watering. Look at the evidence below…
For a relaxed hog roast time, there are hog roast restaurants in York that offer dine-in privacy, otherwise if you are rushing, a take-away would definitely suffice. These hog roast shops are always a pleasant sight because they smell so good.
