The Oldest Restaurant in the World and more Madrid Scenes

For our last day in Madrid we elected to spend it on visiting the Palace area, shopping (yup it’s our last day, last hoera, lol) and checking out the oldest restaurant in the world.

We started our day with a Madrileno breakfast and afterwards did some slow sightseeing in the area. It’s nice to just walk and look around at a slower place, you tend to notice more things, you get to feel the depth of your surroundings. We walked to the direction of Plaza Mayor to check out the oldest restaurant in Madrid, which happens to be the oldest restaurant in the world, as per the Guinness Book of World Records.

The restaurant’s name is ‘Sobrino de Botin’ dating back to 1725. It’s specialty is the succulent cuchinillo asado (roasted suckling piglet). The restaurant was not open when we were there. I, however, thought of reserving a table but that idea never came to fusion with reality. Be warned though, it is a very touristy place.

Oldest restaurant in the world:

Group tours pass by often. It is one of the most talked about places in town. I do not see the fuss really except that it is an ancient restaurant.

Here is one of the ubiquituous tour guides stopping by at Sobrino de Botin and informing the group about its antediluvian history.

Here is a scaled version of the kitchen.

Here’s some Madrid Scenes:

Funny, I had to touch this statue to make sure he was not real. He can cammouflage easily when there are many people around.

Aroung Plaza Mayor.

At the local barbershop on the corner.
