Twilight in Copenhagen and a Lobster and Jamon Dinner at Hereford House

Back in April I was in Copenhagen during the long Easter weekend. It was a solo trip that I normally treat myself once or a few times in a year. I realised this (long time ago actually) that I needed my space from time to time. And I am glad that I am in a relationship wherein my other half respects my precious ME TIME. Dutchman as well needed his time alone and I give this to him.

I strongly believe that in a relationship we have 3 worlds—our own (my) world, our partner’s own (his) world and our own world together. The first 2 worlds are very crucial to me because we can only be of value to our partner if we are whole ourselves, and that goes down to loving ourselves and knowing who we are and what we want. It is the same as we can only be capable of truly loving someone if we possess love ourselves. Of course there is give and take as well. Now, I call this a healthy relationship, but I also realise that everyone has its own understanding and opinion of what a (healthy) relationship is. So with that, whatever floats our boat =)

The Nyhavn Hereford House

In Copenhagen I visited the Nyhavn in the afternoon and was impressed with the place that I decided to come back in the evening to have dinner in one of the restaurants. I really did not research any restaurant ahead of time for this trip because my goal was—spontaneity. I just wanted to go with the flow and see where my trip will bring me.

Because I am a light eater who wants to sample everything (haha, I know it contradicts) I was looking for a restaurant that offers a combination of seafood and salad. I stumbled upon this restaurant called—Nyhavns Hereford House. They were offering a half lobster on the menu. Sounds good to me.

I ordered the half lobster and a jamon Serrano salad. Instead of white to go with the lobster, I had red wine because I just felt like drinking red. The food was okay, there was no Danish orchestra playing at the back of my ears when I had my first taste of the lobster and jamon. My rating is 3.7 stars out of 5. Their food could have been better though.

I sat on the corner so I have a good view of everyone.

My half a lobster order with lots of basilicum on top and lemon.

And my Jamon order with some side salad leafy greens drizzled with balsamico.

Nyhavns Hereford House. It is cold for April. The masses that once sat on these lovely terraces have left for the day.

Nyhavn (New Haven) at twilight.

The light and colours of dusk was simmering as I walked out of the restaurant. During the summer months in northern Europe we get more light during the day. It’s early April and just before 20:00 and there is still light in Copenhagen.

Twilight can be lovely on a clear day.

Stroget is the main shopping street of Copenhagen and is the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe.

This is part of the large Kongens Nytorv square (King’s New Square) on Stroget.
