Belgium: Do not underestimate and skip Ghent!

Last month I was in Ghent, Belgium together with Blondine. The city is located in the Flemish region and they speak Dutch here.

Lovely Ghent City

In the Middle Ages, Ghent was a very rich and important city that played a pivotal role in the economy of Europe.

We started the day with a walk discovering the city, which for me was more like a rediscovery walk having been here a few years ago. Then we had ‘kriek’, the cherry beer at the Graslei.

I see Ghent as the big sister to its romantic and cosy little neighbour, Bruges. And I know that many people skip Ghent in favour of Bruges, or even Antwerp and Brussels, but really people, Ghent is lovely. Do not undervalue her. Give her the attention that she deserves =)

Here are the pictures of our DIY walking tour in the city:

Antique street market beside the church.

Riverside Ghent, a city of canals.

The Beer and Gin House, a great place if you are into gastronomy and alcohol. Blondine bought something here for her significant other.

The Gravensteen Castle located in the city centre itself.

The beautiful Saint Nicholas Church.
