About 80% of my time at work is spent on the field—with business partners and/or clients, on the road driving, parking, on the telephone, at gasoline stations, somewhere… basically outside, just out there.
Some days I am able to document my business travels within the country. Like my lunches for example. Many times not. And there are also times when I want to document something but failed to or just could not. Such as yesterday when I was in Hoofddorp I saw a big SAS airplane pass by in front of me. Beautiful. Upon seeing it, I immediately thought—‘Oh wow, that could have been a great picture!’
Too late. I do not have photographic lenses eyes. My camera sits at the bottom of my purse and my iPhone needs a password. Plus I am on the wheel.
So I was in the east of the country with a customer. I have two and a half hours before my next meeting which is in the south. That would roughly give me 45 minutes to lunch somewhere. I pulled out my map (thank you iPhone) and checked the nearest city that has a highway connection to the city in the south that I have a meeting planned.
Deventer was the answer. Luckily when I entered the old centrum I was led to a parking lot that is just beside the De Brink square. All I need was to cross the street and there I am, voila!
Quickly settled in the outdoor terrace of the cafe restaurant on De Brink square and ordered ‘Tuna Salad’ and a glass of black hot tea. I have a table facing ‘De Waag’ (Weighing House) that houses Deventer’s Historical Museum. I love my view! This is perfect for the moment.
It wasn’t really very busy at the square. It’s autumn and although the sun came out from time to time, the air is chilly and the clouds were thick. This is enough to send the sun worshippers away.
It was a rather quick lunch as I have a meeting to catch up. On the road again!
