Shaved ‘Caramel Candy’ street vendor in Seoul

Merry Christmas to those who are celebrating!

Sweets are not really much of a favourite of mine but I am sure many people have a sweet tooth because the confectionary industry is in the bazillion range. This holiday season many will be in total debauchery mood, overeating, overdrinking and bingeing on sugary stuff. So here is I think an apt post for this holiday season—something sweet I guess. A Merry Christmas treat =)

Now for this particular candy, I encountered this near Namsangol in Jung-gu or Jung in the Central District of Seoul, also known as the Financial Centre of South Korea. The district is just below Jongno-gu or Jongno (Old City Centre). I have no idea what this is called as everything on his cart is written in Korean. But I call him the ‘Shaved Caramel Candy Street Vendor’.

That huge dark brown slab is caramel candy.

The caramel is mixed with almonds I think. The candy vendors scrapes, rather shaves off some caramel and make it into a lolly. Looks quite yummy.

Honestly I have never seen anything like it. Such huge slabs of caramel, oh dear me! If I was a little girl, upon seeing this enourmous candy cart, I am sure I will be giddy and would definitely buy a shaved caramel popsicle.

Street food always interests me. I may not try all of them—although I did ate a few here in Seoul, my first one was a ‘Grilled Squid’ in Itaewon—they are and will always be a part of my travels.

Discovering the country you are travelling to, as well as their food, well for me they go together =)
