A stroll on Vila Nova de Gaia riverside

The Calem cave tour and port tasting was quite fast than I have expected. We were done in half an hour but I stayed a bit longer for the wine tasting checking out the different types of port bottles on sale.

I have actually booked the special program including the Fado act but it starts at 18:30 which means I still have about an hour to go so I decided to take a walk along the boulevard. I also wanted to check out the restaurant that I will be dining later, just to make sure that I like it. These days I am into dining with a view but the ambiance of the restaurant should be inviting as well.

Nevertheless, let’s have a stroll on the other side of the Douro River, on the Vila Nova de Gaia promenade.

Other port brands and their caves (a term used for port warehouse)…

The flags of all port brands in Vila Nova de Gaia and there is a cable car in this side of the river as well that offers breath taking views of Porto.

Fado is a traditional Portuguese musical act. There are places such as this in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia to watch Fado artists perform. Free but you have to buy drinks. As you can see they usually start late which is the reason why I decided to take the special program (cave tour + port tasting + fado) from Calem.

This guy selling roasted chestnuts was yelling at me Feecebook! Feecebook! when I took his picture.

At the Vila Nova de Gaia side one can find the BARCA RABELOS (boats) docked permanently for show. These are the traditional boats used back then to transport port wine.

Now its time to go back to the Calem caves for the Fado evening!

Until  my next post.
