My last day in Munich was spent going slow. I went to have a drink at Schuhbecks Orlando after a stroll in the Hofgarten.
Hofgarten (Court Garden)
Information: Hofgarten
Commissioned by Duke Maximilian I in 1613-1617, the garden is designed in Italian Renaissance style.
This is a nice green place to wander around during a slow day in the city. A place where you can relax and reflect about the events of the day that had just passed. I did not see any signs saying, Keep Off the Grass, so during warmer and dry days, this is a great place to hold an outdoor picnic.
I also read that local residents come here to play boules in the summer. It is a French/Italian ball game played mostly by senior citizens. In the south of France they call this petanque.
Bavarian State Chancellery
East of the Hofgarten is the Bayerische Staatskanzlei (Bavarian State Chancellery). This impressive building used to be the Bavarian Army Museum (built circa 1905) but is now a government office. Love the glass wings which were added in 1993.
Schuhbecks Orlando
Website: Schuhbecks Orlando | Address: Platzl 4
One of the prettiest cafe restaurants in Munich where waiters and waitresses are elegantly and traditionally dressed in crisp white and black. I cannot really say much about the food but if you are into places with beautiful interiors and golden ambiance, then this is a must stop. Lunch or even for just a drink.
The owner though is Alfons Schuhbeck, a Celebrity TV chef who has been awarded with a Michelin star (2 restaurants I believe).
