Kuala Lumpur Chinatown: Petaling Street

Petaling Street is the heart of Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur. It is one of those touristy places that is filled with a lot of locals, so one can never go wrong coming here.

There are lots of knock-off items sold here from bags, shirts, shoes to all sorts of stuff. This street screams counterfeit. I also love the street food scene! It is such a joy to see tropical fruits that reminds me of my childhood but what I really loved were those chilled soya bean drinks. Can’t get enough of them really.

This is officially Chinatown but because Malaysia is a multi-cultural country, one can see Indian, Bangladeshi, Malay and Chinese vendors selling their wares and foodstuff here. Nearby though is another market, KL’s Central Market.

Always a very busy place teeming with locals and tourists alike so my best advice is to try something new (I swear on those soya bean drink), enjoy the atmosphere and watch your pockets like a hawk.

Chestnuts a roasting.

The side streets of Petaling Street are also filled to the brim with vendor stalls and visitors.

This is the main Petaling Street with the cover walk.

I love this tropical fruit: Mangosteen which is rarely found in the grocery here in Europe.

Another tropical fruit: Rambutan which is a bit similar to Lychee.

I could not get enough of the soya bean drinks here. This one was really good.

At the end of Petaling Street traffic ensues.

Notice the row of  traditional shop houses which are typical in Malaysia and Singapore.
