If there is one thing I love about France, it is their gourmet markets. I love outdoor markets and I cannot get enough of them in this country.
The open market is very easy to find in the centre.
Friday Market in Valloire
Location: On the square of the Church of Notre Dame de l’ Assomption
I have learned that markets in the mountains are usually played by ear. Which means that if the day goes slow, they pack up and leave. Well, the vendors are not packing up too early today because the crowd just kept pouring in. Locals, tourists, visitors from nearby villages, it is swarming here! The market hours even got extended until very late in the afternoon.
Obviously I was in market heaven, I could not stop taking pictures of every gourmet food item.
Anyway, come shop with me and don’t drool please =)
French rotisserie, poulet et saucissons.
Markets are great way to do some gourmet tasting =)
Terrines, they are great on a toast.
I get excited when I see salamis!!!
Even textiles, plaid and pillows were sold in the market.
These are alpine liquors, can be drank for aperitif or digestif. As a rule, the sweeter is reserved as digestif.
Nougat and Galibier artisanale beer.
Cheeses: Reblochon and Tomme de Savoie.
More cheeses: Gruyere, Beaufort, Comte…
I had to touch the jacket to feel it if it is indeed silk touch =)
Wines of Savoie (Savoie is a department in the Rhone-Alpes region).
Tartiflette! This dish is very typical of the alpine areas especially in Savoie. The local dish I shall say.
Vin Chaud or mulled wine or gluhwein, popular drink for the winter season.
Clothing and accessories were also sold in the market.
Mediterranean flavours in the alps.
I bought some of these sausages and they are quite good.
More saucissons… had to laugh at the name.
Genepi liquors. Free tasting people.
Goat’s cheeses, yummy for salads.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures as much as I did taking them.
