Dinner at Restaurant Cafe In de Waag in Nieuwmarkt, Amsterdam

Located at the back of the Red Light District is the cool Nieuwmarkt. This area of Amsterdam never sleeps.

In the middle of the Nieuwmarkt square you will find the beautiful De Waag (The Weigh House) built in 1488 and was previously one of Amsterdam’s city gates, but to me it looks like a little castle. This is where meat, grains, wheat, cheese and anything that needs to be weighed are done during the Middle Ages before Dutch merchants trade them.

This is a great historical piece of Amsterdam that is now a restaurant cafe. Definitely on my list to try and visit, although I have actually been here three times. The third time was this visit with Miss Luster, an ex-colleague visiting the Netherlands. I brought her to Amsterdam and after a day of rounding up the usual suspects of places of interests to see, we proceeded to the famous Red Light District to inspect the scene, afterwhich we retired for dinner at the Waag.

The lovely restaurant cafe has an outdoor terrace as well so during the day this is a nice place to hang out.

Entrance to the restaurant cafe.

Greetings from the kitchen. I forgot what this was but it was very good.

The restaurant is said to be lighted with 300 candles.

Miss Luster had couscous with peas paired with fish and mussels.

I had grilled lamb on a bed of potatoes and vegetables.

Coffee and chocolates thereafter.

4.2 stars out of 5.

I would highly recommend this cafe restaurant, if not for dinner at least for lunch, a quick afternoon snack or end of the day drinks.
