The Night Life and Bar Scene in Malacca, Malaysia

I thought I was done with my Malaysia entries but a quick look at my pictures, I am not. You see, I blog based on the pictures I took from my trips. I do wonder though if other bloggers does it the same as me.

Night Life Scene in Malacca
Malacca Information: Malacca

Who would have thought that Malacca has a lively night life scene? I didn’t obviously. All I knew was there is a night market here in the weekend starting from Friday to Sunday on Jonker Street, but it looks like the night life scene is what young people really come here for. The outdoor night life terraces are connected to the night market via the side streets, particularly on the little street on the corner of Geographer Café. This street was closed to traffic on Saturday evening and accordingly transformed into an open-air bar.

It didn’t surprise me as well that most people there were tourists, lots were Singaporeans on a weekend getaway in Malacca. It just a few hours’ drive. But many I believe were local tourists from Kuala Lumpur as well.

So EF and I stayed here for an hour or two after our dinner at the Portuguese Village for some beer, more chat and people watching.

What stood out that night was an old woman who was with a group of youngins. She was drinking and was as loud as the rest, singing karaoke (yep, we are in Asia) and high-fiving with the rest. Just looking at her makes me feel old already. *sigh*

So much verhicular traffic surrounding the night market on Jonker Street.

EF and moi having a random pose on the street =)

There are many cafes like this on the side streets. These were taken quite early in the evening so the night action has yet to come.

The Geographer Cafe is located on Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat) and is perhaps the biggest bar cafe in the area. It is housed in a pre-war shophouse so it has a traditional, rich, historical Malaccan ambiance.

We took a table outdoors at Geographer cafe and ordered a Corona for moi and a Somersby Apple Cider for EF.

When typical Asians go out, the night is never complete without singing and ordering food. Beer, karaoke and food, they always go hand in hand. In Europe, people rarely eat when going out, people just drink.

EF and moi. She had enough of me paparazzing her.

Many young couples were out =)
