Plateau Fruits de Mer at Lucius Restaurant in Amsterdam

Did I mention in this blog that I rarely eat fish at home? The reason is really very practical. The Dutchman does not eat fish and it would be a lot of work for me if I make two different types of dinner every evening. Secondly, fish smells when you cook it. I do have an exhaust in my kitchen but sometimes the smell can stay longer, and naturally, I don’t like a smelly house.

So that is why I prefer to order fish when I go out and eat at restaurants.

Plateau Fruits de Mer.

Last July, I booked a table at Lucius Fish Restaurant for Bru and moi. I read good reviews online about the restaurant so that was a good start I thought.

The restaurant is located near the Spui Square. When we arrived it just started to get busy. A few guests who came after us that didn’t have any reservation were turned away. When dining in Amsterdam, and especially if the restaurant has limited tables (20 and less), I always make a reservation. You can never take chances.

When our Plateau Fruits de Mer arrived we were impressed with the presentation. The plate looked so lovely and delicious. I could not wait to start picking the shellfish one by one. Unfortunately, some of the shellfishes were not really that super fresh. They were eatable but not that enjoyable. Sadly, not the standard I am used to.

Helaas, this plate of shellfish and crustacean treats was a 3.5 stars out of 5 in my book.

Chilled rose and chardonnay to start.

The Dutch love their sauces. I almost never touch this. I prefer to eat the seafood just as it is. Perhaps with a little squeeze of lemon.

Bru and the pretty plate of fruits de mer.

Yours truly. Cheers! =)

Fresh oysters and lemon.

1/2 Canadian lobster, crab legs and common whelk.

Common periwinkles.

King prawns, these were fresh though.

Vongole clams and there were some mussels as well.

These are Dutch shrimps.

A few Langoustines as well.

Our neighbouring table also ordered the plateau fruits de mer, a small one though. I think we made her order it as she was looking at ours for quite some time.

Bru and her bike when she used to live and work in Amsterdam. She has now moved to the peaceful countryside.

Pretty Amsterdam buildings near Spui.

Can you spot the cat?

Coffee and tea to close the dinner at the terrace of Cafe Luxembourg in Spui.
