Did you know that the term ‘Award-Winning’ in England is as ubiquitous as the black cabs in London?
Everywhere I turn to in England I see the award-winning phrase. On a product’s packaging, a store, on a signage of a restaurant, a mention in an article, on a beer advertisement page of a magazine, even UK bloggers use it to describe themselves in their About Me pages. Methinks that this very typically British adjective has been abused so much.
It’s all marketing of course because we human beings are quite naive and shallow. We buy based on emotion, perception and yes, promises. So if someone says they are award-winning we believe them, whilst some might even fawn over them. This stuff happens! If a product is tagged with the award-winning slogan, we of course buy it, or at least be intrigued with it. Marketeers take heed =)
Well this Cornish Steak Pasty at the Cornish Bakehouse in Bath though is really good. I wish I bought another one, but then again I am quite serious about not overeating when I am travelling. Need to be disciplined somehow.
England is one of the best places to eat delicious pasty. Perhaps I need to go to Cornwall to taste the original ones for myself? I can’t really say if this pasty I found at The Corridor in Bath is award-winning because I haven’t tasted another to compare while there. But hey, it’s very good and I guess they must have won real awards? I hope!
