Plateau Fruits de Mer at Vis en Meer Restaurant in Utrecht, Netherlands

I had dinner with Blondine last March at the Vis en Meer Restaurant in Utrecht Centrum. We both have been eyeing this place for a long time and the evening finally came =)

The fruits de mer of Vis en Meer (called ‘Plateau Vis en Meer’ in the menu).

The restaurant has very good ratings and upon a quick look on their menu we spied the fruits de mer. Blondine and I are crazy about seafood, and in particular the fruits de mer assortment.

We first ordered some oysters for our starters and paired them with a chilled chardonnay. We quickly gorged everything down. Then our plate of fruits de mer (Plateau Vis en Meer in the menu) arrived and the waiter slowly placed it down on our table, delicately arranging it so we can appreciate the seafood bounty. The whole thing, presentation et al was so scrumptious that the couple sitting beside us stopped talking to each other and just ogled at the large seafood platter with little portions of dishes. They must have regretted what they ordered.

Indeed this fruits de mer platter is a big head turner, an exquisite presence on the dinner table that left me wanting for more. So Blondine and I right away digged into the platter and freed ourselves from the craving =)

Blondine and I truly enjoyed this dinner. This is one of the best fruits de mer I have ever eaten.

Nevertheless, a day after the dinner my credit card company called asking if I made a purchase of €50,000. Huh? Who pays €50,000 with a credit card? Surely not in the Netherlands. And surely not me?!

Well, it looked like that I managed to add too many zeros when I paid for this restaurant bill. There was a little error when I paid and I thought the first payment was cancelled. Well it wasn’t I guess. Luckily, the credit card company saw it and reversed the billing right away. That would have been my most expensive dinner! Haha! Still, I found it very strange that it went through though? A 50K purchase? *security fail*

A plate of creuses oysters.

Blondine happy with her chardonnay and fruits de mer.

Steamed prawns and chunks of tuna and salmon sashimi with ginger, seaweed and caviar.

Cooked and marinated octopus with salmon stips and tuna pate with mini toasts.

Dutch shrimps, tuns steaks and fish croquettes.

Scallops and squids (these were sooo good!) and grilled peeled prawns.

Crabs, gigantic prawns and mussels.

The restaurant also has a very nice, cosy and inviting interior.
