Old Quebec’s City Landmark: Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac

Unfortunately I did not stay at the grand and historic Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac circa 1893 sitting proudly on top of Cap Diamant. If I want to retire early I should stay away from hotels like these =)

Needless to say, the chateau hotel is a landmark, and not just any landmark in town if I may add. It is the iconic image of Old Quebec sitting on a promontory that most people will remember and see in the city’s postcards. Naturally it intrigued me so I went inside to check it out one evening. Well, I needed a private place like a bathroom anyway so I right away thought about the chateau hotel.

I learned this habit of visiting big hotel bathrooms in Makati, Philippines where you will find four 5-star hotels clustered together within a 5-10 minute walking distance from the shopping and entertainment mall. They are clean, they smell nice and they have toilet paper =)

Anyway, I didn’t realise that the hotel is actually encouraging tourists and visitors to tour the hotel on their own. You can even download the app, go here: Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. I did it anyway and in the process had some downtime sitting in a nice lounge area, got connected to a free fast internet and managed to catch up on things, browsed a bit their overpriced shopping gallery, freshened up in the bathroom of course, and well, kept myself a bit warm inside.

The 1608 Wine and Cheese Bar I however highly recommend! Chic setting with nice views to the Dufferin Terrace.

This picture was taken on my last day in Quebec. Blue skies!

Entrance of the hotel is located on the side and not on the terrace.

Along this hallway you’ll find the overpriced shopping gallery.

Lounging here at the lobby and enjoying the free internet =)
