If you ever find yourself in France, you have got to try the Cafe Gourmand. It is coffee (usually espresso) accompanied with a variety of tiny desserts.
The nice thing with this is you can try a variety of desserts without having to face the (lots of) calorie guilt. It is perfect for people who are not the sweet tooth type but need just a little bit of sugar rush after dinner. Lastly, this is also a good idea as dessert to share.
A few years ago, I also ordered a Cafe Gourmand (Gourmet Cafe) in Valmorel ski village.
This was taken on our first skiing day. It was already half past 3pm and I was totally done with the day. It was snowing and it was not really nice up in the mountains as visibility was bad. Dutchman wanted to take the last lift up (lifts close at 4pm) for a last run while I decided to sneak in to Brasserie Les Cimes at the Flaine Forum for something to drink. The Cafe Gourmand in the menu caught my eye. Why not?
Interestingly, the brasserie is right in front of the Le Boqueteau art sculpture by Jean Dubuffet. I was initially seated inside the brasserie but decided to sit outside so Dutchman can easily find me. It was not too bad being entertained by Dubuffet.
Flaine village is filled with modernist art by Dubuffet, Picasso and Vasarely. The buildings here as well were built in Bauhaus style. I may have to take a day off from skiing and explore the art and architecture treasures of this alpine ski village.
