Charming and Elegant Rue Saint Louis | Quebec City, Canada Travel

First time visitors to Quebec City must not miss a stroll on Rue Saint Louis.

I read about this street from the Quebec City and Quebec Region travel booklet I picked up at the Tourism Office located on Place d’Armes, which by the way faces the iconic and stunning Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac.

The stroll starts at the Place d’Armes and entering into Rue Saint Louis from the corner. On Rue Saint Louis are charmingly decorated old buildings remodelled into lovely cafes and bistros, delightful restaurants and elegant boutique hotels. It is a beautiful street. I had a little coffee and whiskey break on this street at the Cafe Bistro L’Omelette. I would have loved to eat but I was not hungry, so my liquid regimen was all that my stomach can handle. Mind you, coffee and whiskey are not very healthy at all. But why not? We live in a free world. We have choices and we make them everyday.

Nevertheless, I always prefer wine and strong drinks over sweet sugary cocktails that make me dizzy and want to throw up.

If you continue walking on Rue Saint Louis you will reach the city gates and part of the remaining city walls, then on the right you will see the Esplanade Park (Parc du l’Espanade) and further ahead is the Parliament building (Hotel du Parlement). As you walk past all these and continue on you will reach Grande Allee where beautiful Victorian buildings line up the streets. This street is home to Quebec City’s dining out, entertainment and night life scene. The place to be in the evening if you are looking for some fun.

So if you are visiting Quebec for the first time, remember Rue Saint Louis.
