The Bath, England Recap

These are the rest of the pictures I took in Bath last year…

You may sometimes wonder if I am still able to enjoy my trips when I am taking a LOT of pictures? Well, this is because I use a very handy weapon for a camera: a pocket camera! It is not your usual DSLR many photography enthusiasts, tourists and bloggers use. With a pocket camera, you can simply take a shot whenever and wherever you want with quick precision. Because it is small, you can easily put it inside your purse, pocket or just carry it in your hands. You need however to have the feeling to know when to shoot, as well as the skill on how to take great pictures. But with time, one is able to practice it.

In Bath I stayed at a cosy apartment in the heart of the city, the Abbey House on the Abbey Green which is as central as it can be. Just around the corner is the Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths Museum, and across the apartment is the pub Crystal Palace where I had a drink one evening.

I managed to see many beautiful Palladian-style architecture during my walks in town. I saw the magnificent Royal Crescent and the Circus, both being grand examples of why Bath is a celebrated city for history and architecture. The stunning Pulteney Bridge on the River Avon reminds me of the Rialto Bridge in Venice and the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. I love the fact that the bridge had shops on it. I even managed to have coffee at a cafe underneath the bridge! During another spontaneous walk I discovered the city’s artisan quarter. On Walcot Street I could feel the artistic vibe in the air and saw a number of really cool artisan and vintage shops. Another thing that I enjoyed doing whilst walking around Bath was taking pictures of the many Georgian doors. The city is a World Heritage site since 1987.

Going for a spa is one of the many suggested leisurely activities to do, after all the city is named after this! But since I am travelling alone, I opted out. I did not like the idea of taking a bath and sauna in public on my own. I am also not really a spa person anyway.

Shopping is not my favourite activity when I am travelling, but I was curious to see the city’s chic shopping thoroughfare located in the Upper Town, the elegant Milsom Street. For mainstream shopping, you will have to go to the busy Union Street in the Central Bath area. However, I am a huge fan of traditional markets, and I was able to check out the 18th century indoor Bath Guildhall Market and the every Saturday Farmer’s Market at the Greek Park Station as well. The foodies need to come here!

As for eats, I munched on a delicious Cornish pasty and had a lovely very English Cream Tea at the Bath Bun Tea Shoppe. It is the clotted cream really that makes it so English and so yummy. In the evening I had the famous traditional and casual English cuisine meal of Fish n Chips with mushy peas at Garfunkels. I am a seafood enthusiast and was really craving for fish. The other nights I spent having dinner at the apartment with food bought from Marks n Spencer. After a long day’s stroll, it was nice to hang around the apartment and not go elsewhere for dinner. From the living room I could see the goings on outside on Abbey Green.

You can easily take the train in London Paddington Station to Bath Spa Station which takes approximately 1.5 hours. Bath is a perfect day trip for those visiting London.

Hope you enjoy these last pictures of the city.

Bath’s city landscape colour is predominantly beige. The buildings here were made from quarried limestone called the Bath Stone.

Of course, Bath has its own ales as well…

Walking further away from the core centre here. When I am doing city trips, I can walk like forever. I think I can do a 10-12 kilometres walk per day

The Bath Royal Theatre in the centre of town. I was planning on watching a show but got lazy after my Fish n Chips dinner, I went back to the apartment and watched TV instead.

The upper photo is the Green Park Railway Station (not being used anymore I believe) and every Saturday there is a Farmer’s Market here. I almost watched the “Oh What A Lovely War” show at the Royal Theatre,

Restaurants and Pubs in Bath.
