Do you notice that rundown villages and places sometimes have their own charm? In a very strange and unique way?
The Petrovaradin village is a very small village in Novi Sad, and is home to the world famous in Serbia, the Petrovaradin Fortress.
I have to pass by the village every time I am going to Novi Sad city centre. The streets in this ghost town-like village were almost abandoned and the most number of people I saw were at the bus stand on the main street, just a few minutes before the bus arrived. The atmosphere is perhaps what people would refer to as reminiscent of communist Eastern Europe era. It looks sad and destitute, but the artistic side in me sees an unyielding, somewhat uncanny, charm to it. If I may, a bit surreal perhaps?
Peeled off and cracking paint on buildings. Auster and bleak. The lack of green (plants). Unkempt and not maintained streets. Writings, er I mean vandalism on the walls. Rust. Dilapidated and abandoned looking buildings. Moss build up.
The village looked like it just froze in time. But there is hope for progress I am sure.
Here are a few of my pictures of the village. Judge for yourself.
