The Tube: London Underground

I love taking the metro or subway when I am travelling in a foreign developed country. In London they call this the Tube. Don’t you just love its logo?

Victoria Station was my last stop as I took the Gatwick Express here to Gatwick Airport.

The London Tube Map.

Taking this ultimate metropolitan fast public transport just gives me the thrill. They go every 3 minutes in London so you are never too early or too late for any.

Finding out the different routes I can take just makes me excited. I am on a mission. The map is like a crossword puzzle to me. Some people even call the London Tube — a mess of spaghetti. Now that is daunting! But no worries, I always love a problem solving situation you know.

The only struggle I experienced here is the tiny free Tube map. The map is ridiculously small, I could not see the colours of the routes and names of the stops! I have to admit that this is partly my fault as I am still in the denial stage. I really need to go to an optometrician very soon.

I bought an Oyster Card and loaded it with a few Pounds. I probably have an Oyster Card misplaced somewhere in the house from many years ago. A single journey costs £2.30 but when you reach the £6.40 tariff ceiling each day, you can then travel unlimited for the day. I like this capping concept.

These are the Underground Metro Stations (that I managed to take a picture) that I used when I was in London recently.

I arrived in Paddington Station from Bath Spa.

This is my station. I stayed at the Hilton Hotel Tower Bridge and this is the nearest station, about a 4 minute walk to the hotel being served by Jubilee and Northern Line.

A sneak peak of moi here at the Tower Bridge.

This is the station I use to change over to the Victoria and Picadilly Lines. This is also the exit station to the Buckingham Palace.

The Northern Line Tube Map at Moorgate. My stop is the London Bridge.

Keep left. This is England. They drive on the left, walk on the left and take the escalators on the left as well. That guy before me must be reprimanded!

One evening I walked from my hotel near the Tower Bridge to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament at Westminster. It was a nice walk. Going back I took the tube from Westminster on the Jubilee Line.

I got off Bond Street Station to visit this yummylicious Lobster restaurant in the area that I would love to share to you in my upcoming post.

Covent Garden’s tube is soooo deep in the underground system of London that it will take you 193 steps (equivalent to 15 floors) to climb the stairs to exit! Don’t worry, there are 2 heavy duty lifts =)

This is at London City, the financial area of London.

Just passing through here.

I love the upbeat jive of Leicester Square. The Brits like to short cut certain words when saying it. So this is pronounced Lester.
